Volunteer in Ventura!
Looking for places to volunteer in Ventura County? You’ve come to the right place! We have been harvesting food, fighting hunger, and building community across the county since 2010. In that time, we have recovered over 1 million pounds of fresh produce to donate to local hunger relief and direct service agencies.
Read on to learn more about different volunteer opportunities across Ventura County, or go straight to our calendar of upcoming volunteer events:
Volunteer Fruit & Vegetable Harvests
We harvest fruit from orchards, farms, and private properties all over Ventura County. Volunteers will meet up with one of our trained Pick Leaders and work for 1.5 – 2 hours to pick as much as they can. We pack the produce into Food Forward boxes and donate 100% to local hunger relief agencies.
Volunteer Harvests Throughout the Year
We work with property owners and managers who donate the produce from their trees and farms to help us fight hunger. If you’re looking for a fun, outdoor, and unique service experience, we have volunteer opportunities in Ventura County throughout the year. We harvest fruits and veggies in the following cities:
- Santa Paula
- Simi Valley
- Thousand Oaks
- and more!
Group Volunteer Fruit Harvests
Food Forward harvests fruit at many larger orchards and citrus groves across the county. These events are great opportunities for families, friends, and groups to serve together. You can see upcoming group volunteer opportunities on our volunteer calendar or submit our group volunteer interest form.
Volunteer at Ventura County Farmers Markets
Our volunteers also collect produce at several county Farmers Markets: Ventura, Channel Islands, Thousand Oaks, Oxnard, and Westlake. We’re out at the market week after week, connecting with vendors who have extra unsold produce that they’re willing to donate.
This is an incredible way to experience the abundance of our vibrant Farmers Markets. Come out early to get your shopping done, and stick around to join the “Glean Team”. Check out our upcoming Farmers Markets and sign up quickly, because volunteer spots fill fast!
We’re Looking for Volunteer Leaders!
Hoping to get more involved or planning to volunteer on a regular basis? We’d love to have you join our team of “Super Volunteer” Leaders! We always need more passionate and dedicated volunteers to help us lead our food recovery events across Ventura County.
Food Banks in Ventura County
While Ventura County offers an incredible abundance of fresh food, it also holds a huge amount of need. According to the latest report from the USDA and Feeding America, 1 out of 12 people living in Ventura County experience some degree of food insecurity.
We’re proud to say that our volunteers have helped us provide over 1 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to Ventura County food banks and pantries in the past years.
So, when you sign up to volunteer with us, you can be sure that you’re making an impact in your own neighborhood.
