Food Forward is committed to promoting the health and well-being of everyone in our community, including our volunteers, agency partners, fruit and vegetable donors, produce recipients, and staff. With that in mind, our operations and programs have been modified based on official recommendations made in response to COVID-19.

Food Forward Operation Status:

Our Wholesale Produce Recovery, Farmers Market Recovery, and Backyard Harvesting programs, and the Produce Pit Stop are continuing to operate with increased safety and hygiene measures in place. Our North Hollywood and Ventura offices are closed, and most staff have been working remotely since Monday, March 16. You can still reach us by calling 818-764-1022 or emailing info@foodforward.org.

Looking for fruits and vegetables?

If you are an individual looking for fresh produce, please visit our Produce Pick-Up page for our distribution schedule.

If you are a hunger relief organization looking to get fresh produce from Food Forward, please complete our intake form. Please note that we are currently experiencing an increase in requests for produce and there may be delays in the review of intake forms.

To receive produce from Food Forward, organizations must 1) agree that it, or the organization of which it is a local chapter or affiliate, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; and 2) offer all of the produce it receives from Food Forward to any person struggling with food insecurity, without any financial cost or any other requirements or exclusions.

In order to focus on sustained community support, we are not able to accommodate one-time events at this time.

Looking to volunteer?

Community volunteer events in Los Angeles and Ventura counties are paused for the time being. Only staff and volunteer leaders trained prior to COVID-19 are gleaning and harvesting with new safety protocols. We don’t know when we’ll be able to reopen our community events, so the best way to stay in the loop is to sign up for Food Forward’s bi-weekly newsletter, Fresh Juice, and/or our bi-monthly Volunteer Newsletter. Click here to join.

Want to support your community while you can’t volunteer with us?

• We compiled a list of opportunities, including ways to donate time and resources, support local businesses and farms, and fight racial injustice.

• Our work to recover fresh produce and distribute it to individuals experiencing food insecurity is more important than ever right now. Make a donation today.

• If you have extra fruit on your trees, consider sharing it with your neighbors! Visit our DIY harvesting page for safe harvesting tips.

For any additional volunteer-related questions, please email volunteer@foodforward.org.

Want to donate your fruit?

Thank you for your interest in donating fruit from your trees! The situation with COVID-19 is continually evolving, and we’re more grateful than ever for your donations. Our resources are extremely limited, so we appreciate your patience during the present time. Please check out this page for more information on donating your fruit.
