Celebrating 25 Million Pounds
Food Forward hits a major milestone.
Overwhelmed. Humbling. Immense. These are just a few words that come to mind as we look back on the 25 million pounds Food Forward has donated to help feed our region’s most needy.
Just over seven years ago, our first three volunteers met under two trees in Valley Glen. Over the next three weekends, they collected 800 pounds of tangerines and navel oranges for SOVA in Van Nuys. Flash forward to today, our combined programs recover and donate an average of 300,000 pounds of surplus produce every week that will help feed over 1.5 million people across 8 counties this year!
None of this could have been done without the rigorous support of each and every one of you!
Every volunteer, donor (produce, financial, in-kind, and beyond), and hunger relief agency played a role in getting these 25 million pounds to our neighbors in need.
In celebration of this milestone, today we are launching the brand new Food Forward website.
Redesigned from top to bottom, we hope you’ll take a look to learn more about where we work, who we work with, and what we’re doing to get more surplus produce to people in need every day of the year.
As we celebrate our achievements and look to the future, it’s abundantly clear that our work, our mission, and our accomplishments will always be about the simple act of sharing. Even just one piece of fruit can make an impact, whether it’s being given or received.
Please join us in raising a carrot, papaya, or eggplant to the next 25 million pounds!
