Farmers Market Recovery Program Assistant

ORGANIZATION: Food Forward (501c3 non-­‐profit), www.foodforward.org

HOURS: 10 -­ 12 hours per week: Twice a week at our North Hollywood office and/or in the field.

COMPENSATION: Unpaid internship. All non-­commuter miles driven will be reimbursed

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Food Forward’s mission is to reconnect people with people – through food – by bringing together volunteers and neighbors to share in the gleaning and distributing of locally grown food from private homes and public spaces which is then distributed to local food pantries and organizations serving those in need.

Farmers Market Recovery Program Overview: In 2012, Food Forward launched the Farmer’s Market Recovery Program (FMR Program). The program is designed to collect unsold donated produce at farmers markets which is then distributed to receiving agencies to get the fresh food to those needing it most. The FMR program is powered by a team of volunteers that we call “The Glean Team.” This position provides an opportunity to become deeply involved in the urban food justice community, while working for a prominent and growing nonprofit.

Position Overview: We are looking for someone to help with the administrative day-­to-day program tasks. This person will work directly with the Farmers Market Recovery Program Manager. Tasks will include, scheduling volunteers, documenting results, doing outreach, and posting to social media.

We are looking for someone who is:

-­A wizard with excel
-­A Spartan with details and organization
-­excited to be nimble and work autonomously
-­1-­2 years of experience; Grad + MBA students are welcome to apply -­Believes whole heartedly in the Food Forward’s mission
-Bonus: they live in the Echo Park/ East LA area

Areas of assistance include:

-­Glean Team scheduling
-­Receiving Agency communication -­FMR training materials + resources -­Social media
-­Glean Team volunteer outreach
