We’ve been a bit remiss – but only cause we’ve been up in trees

We haven’t meant to ignore our blog but have had a record month of harvests in May and are just now coming up for air.  As this month closes, we are pleased to say Food Forward held no less than 13 picks across So CA – brining our well over 200 volunteers to glean our amazing urban forest.  Thanks to all who picked, packed, led, donated and simply got juicy with us.

What have we been doing you ask?  Well we will fill you in.

In these 13 picks, we did both weekend and midweek sunset picks which included: Big Sunday in the DWP Beverly Hills Grove netting 8300 lbs of mixed fruit for MEND, downed hand-mixed Margaritas by a great new homeowner Bob on our Cinco de Mayo pick, and saw Girl scout Troop #4016 join the FF Team as regular Neighborhood Captians, harvesting over 1000 lbs in their first two outings.

We also added new pantry partners: PATH (Rampart District) and The Downtown Women’s Center who are now receiving fresh local produce from us on a regular basis.

We have just hired a new Volunteer Coordiantor, Max Kanter, who joins the team June 1st:  “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Food Forward team! As Volunteer Coordinator I will promote Food Forward’s mission, by creating and sustaining communities of Southern California volunteers excited to help provide as much local fruit as possible to those who need it most,” says Max.

One of Max’s first projects will be helping beef up volunteer participation with our Moorpark team which is doing amazing work and coming in with 1000+ lbs harvests on a regular basis.  Their growth potential is huge, and the energy of our leaders Martha and Bob have only brought more properties to the table – If you are a Moorpark/Simi or South Ventura County Resident please get in touch as we need your help and fruity spirits as we grow in the area: volunteer@foodforward.org

We’ve been working out of temporary offices in the North Hollywood area, and are very actively looking for permanent space.  If you know of a 1000-1500 sq foot warehouse/industrial or mixed use space in the Noho/W. Burbank/Universal or Van Nuys area or of any real estate angels please let us know: 818-530-4125.

Otherwise please enjoy the pix from the months activities below and check back in the next few days for June’s Fresh Juice.
