The San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles is home to the first Food Forward pick. With only two volunteers and a single backyard, Rick Nahmias harvested over 800 pounds from a neighbors house in Valley Glen and delivered it to SOVA. In the first three months, an astounding 10,000 pounds of produce was harvested, and a total of 100,000 pounds by the end of the first year. Today we have harvested well over 1 million pounds, have 6 employees and over 4,000 volunteers. We are located at: Food Forward

"Having Food Forward harvest my lemon tree made giving to my community both easy and meaningful. They handled everything: the harvesting, the clean up and the delivery of the fruit. I was astounded by the amount of fruit my one little tree yielded and was so gratified to know it would not go to waste but provide fresh fruit to those who would otherwise go without."- Abby, Fruit Donor, Los Angeles "I love being a part of Food Forward picks. They have really taught me to appreciate the labor it takes to harvest our food. At the same time, I also love being around such fun all performing a great deed for the community."- Connie, Volunteer, San Fernando Valley |
